Husband, father, grandfather, professional financial planner, artist and photographer; I am all of these.
Creativity, for me, is manifested not solely in making art; it is a life-long adventure of discovery and learning. It rewards my life while transforming my being with meaningful and enriching experiences.
Why I Photograph
Like my professional work with numbers, rules, regulations and the creation of effective solutions, photography is also both technical and creative. It is my art form, not as a photographer creating art, but rather an artist and storyteller using photography as my medium.
Photography for me is not just "to photograph" but is a means of exploring, expressing and sharing ideas and stories that I cannot otherwise express.
I find that I am not photographing things; but my feelings for them, and sometimes my feelings through them. I may approach a subject with a theme in mind but where it leads I can only follow. With patience and a big dose of curiosity something special often reveals itself ... and more.
I strive to create images that speak both to myself and my audience. The images articulate my wish to connect with both the natural and the man made.
Life and what’s on the “other side” – whether it’s the other side of the hill or the other side of existence, is a fascination. Faith and my personal relationship with God is the very bedrock of my being and of the structure and the symbolism of my work.
My inner spirit attempts to make order out of this chaotic, transient life. The construct of my compositions is usually graphical and stable in form while frequently leaning to abstraction.
Image making is all about the ephemeral, the symbols or the perceptions that create a spark. A spark that hopefully effects a connection, that elicits stories, poses questions or provokes thoughts of the past - what's the back story - what is behind the photograph.
